Mutual Fund Plans & Options Explained

Mutual fund schemes share the identical portfolio of securities, but differ fundamentally in distributor fees and payout tax mechanics:

Direct Plan0% Commission

Zero Intermediary Commissions

You invest directly with the Asset Management Company (AMC). No commission is paid to anyone. Because zero distributor fee is deducted, Direct plans have a lower Total Expense Ratio (TER), keeping more of your money compounding.

Regular PlanDistributor Commission Paid

Annual Commission to Distributor

You invest through an agent, bank, or broker. An ongoing commission is paid to the distributor out of your invested fund balance every single year. This higher expense ratio reduces your net returns over long holding horizons.

Growth OptionCompounding Wealth

Profits Stay Reinvested

All capital gains and dividends generated by holdings are automatically reinvested into the scheme. The NAV increases over time, maximizing compounding. Capital gains tax applies only upon unit redemption.

IDCW OptionTaxed as Income

Periodic Cash Payouts

Income Distribution cum Capital Withdrawal (formerly Dividend Option). The fund distributes periodic cash from scheme surplus, directly reducing the NAV. Payouts are taxed at your personal income tax slab rate in the year received.
